WHY TEST FOR CALPROTECTIN?

Fecal Calprotectin is a clinical biomarker for acute inflammation in general, neoplastic and inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases:

Differentiation between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Assessment of inflammatory activity in Morbus Crohn and ulcerative colitis patients
Differential diagnosis of chronic diarrhea.

Up to 40% of patients with IBD have the same symptoms as patients with IBS. Therefore, differential diagnosis between IBD and IBS is important. Calprotectin is a protein that is found in much higher concentrations in stool than in blood. Calprotectin concentration in stool is much higher in IBD than in IBS, which makes it an extremely useful, non-invasive diagnostic tool for the differential diagnosis of inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases.

Hygienic stool sample preparation system can be performed with the dedicated DRG Fecal Extraction System (FES). It is the device for comfortable, fast and hygienic extraction of stool samples. DRG catalog number is HYI-5989. One box contains of 100 extraction tubes, each filled with Extraction Buffer (ready to use).

The DRG Fecal Extraction System (FES) greatly simplifies the laborious procedure for stool preparation and is adapted to use on the DRG:HYBRID-XL^®. No additional manual dilution or pipetting steps are required. The stool sample tube can be put on the analyzer and the sample will be processed automatically.
