NEW BROCHURE: Fecal Calprotectin - Fully automated with DRG:HYBRiD•XL® Analyzer
Why test for Calprotectin?
Fecal Calprotectin is a clinical biomarker for acute inflammation in general, neoplastic and inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases:
- Differentiation between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Assessment of inflammatory activity in Morbus Crohn and ulcerative colitis patients
- Differential diagnosis of chronic diarrhea.
Up to 40% of patients with IBD have the same symptoms as patients with IBS. Therefore, differential diagnosis between IBD and IBS is important.
Calprotectin is a protein that is found in much higher concentrations in stool than in blood. Calprotectin concentration in stool is much higher in IBD than in IBS, which makes it an extremely useful, non-invasive diagnostic tool for the differential diagnosis of inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases.
